Pittsburgh Apl 20th 1862
Col E. Slifer
Dr Sir
When at Lewisburg some time Since, I was trying to get some money advanced upon my property there, but met no success -
I was referred to you as one, who could most likely accomodate me -
Eighteen months since, I thought I would never be compelled to ask assistance from any one but the Gentleman I am with.
The blockade of our business for one year, has made him through his customers, hard up for available means -
We go[?] Saturday fit[?] out Two pans of Coal Boats[?] with provision for Cairo[?], the first for one year -
As if we had not suffered enough from the blockade, not long since the Government, Seized our "New[?] Boat" - but that is all right If it only assists in putting down this cursed rebellion - but this is not to the point -
If I could sell my property or had it here I might get money, but neither can be done -
To you my property would be good Security as a part of it lies in your own hands -
If you could accommodate me, I will be under lasting obligations -
Please let me know at your earliest convenience
Yours Truly
John[?] D. Musser
