My Dear Catharine

It is still rainy and very gloomy weather. I have not heard a word from you this week. what does that mean. I have wrote to Nicholas [?] noting[?] that he may buy himself a horse and work him for his feed. If the boys have nothing else to do they should haul out the posts from Beaver & Krammers and they might do the necessary soding about the yard wherever you think it ought to be done. I have not yet changed my place of boarding and I think will not for the present. unless my room is put in the condition promised I find the boarders say that there is no improvement. How that matters I do not know. I am really very comfortable where I am. I do not think Wyiths[?] will remain very long where they are but I do not know that that will make my plan any the worse they are very kind to me and endeavor as far as they can to contribute to my comfort

I most heartily wish the war was over it is nothing but work and pay it nearly costs me my salary but perhaps I should not complain as it costs [?] others a goodeal more. Now do not forget to write to me.

Affectionately Yours

Eli Slifer.
