Dear Sir

We are about

organizing a volunteer Military Company in this place in addition to the one already formed and have already secured between 30 & 40 members. We propose calling it "The Slifer Guards"

I have been authorized by the Committee of Management to write to you asking whether another Company will be accepted from this place, and if not immediately accepted whether any arms could be furnished by the state for the purpose of drill in the meantime - Yours very truly
