Civil War Documents and Manuscripts One hundred and thirty-three items related to the American Civil War, including both undated items and those dating from 1856 to 1894, have been selected for electronic formatting from the Slifer-Walls Collection. These papers are part of the manuscript holdings of Special Collections/University Archives at Bucknell University. The selected materials have been ordered chronologically, described, reproduced as scanned facsimiles, and transcribed. An index of names links directly to the relevant documents in which they appear. The chart devised to search the material is divided into columns with seven headings: File Number, Type of Document, Descriptive Title, Date, Description, Facsimile, and Transcription. File numbers have been assigned to the electronic version only, and do not correlate to the arrangement order of original documents in the collection. Types of formats include official documents, manuscripts, and letters. Brief descriptive titles indicate correspondents, where indicated, and topics. Known dates are given, with approximate dates appearing in brackets. Full descriptions summarize content details. Facsimiles can be viewed in their entirety, or read in enlarged segments. The transcriptions are verbatim translations of the original texts. Where texts are illegible, the most likely word choices are provided in brackets. |
