Books, Videos, CDs, etc:
The Acquisitions Department orders materials of all types, excluding journal
and database subscriptions, to support the teaching and research needs of Bucknell
University. These materials include, but are not limited to: books, videos,
DVDs, multimedia products, musical recordings (CDs), maps, and audiocassettes.
Orders may be submitted by faculty and staff using one of the online forms
above, by email, or by sending us a note, catalog, review or other blurb.
Students are encouraged to submit recommendations via the suggestion
box.
Please check the online catalog before placing an order.
Turnaround time for most regular items is about 6 weeks. If you need something
sooner, please contact us.
APPROVAL PLAN:
We have an approval plan with Yankee Book Peddler, a library book jobber. Weekly,
we receive a shipment of new books, which we display in subject order in the
approval book review room located on the 2nd floor, in the ISR office. Department
library representatives and subject librarians are expected to review the books
each week, signing the slips for the books that should be added to the collection.
About one third of all new library books are received via the approval plan.
Questions about the approval plan should be directed to Kathleen
McQuiston, Librarian/Program Manager for Information Resources Selection
or Jennifer Clarke, Supervisor of Acquisitions.
Journals and Databases:
Journal subscriptions, unlike the materials mentioned above, represent a long-term
commitment of financial resources. For this reason all requests for new journals
received during the year are carefully reviewed by the New/Core Journals Committee
in the Fall. If you have questions about requesting a new journal, contact your
library
liaison or Kathleen McQuiston x73309.
Requests for new databases should be directed to your library
liaison.
